Kyung Hee University Dongseo New Medicine Hospital has recently enjoyed its 4th year since establishment, and is the center of focus for its success in hosting foreign patients, in effort to the government's recent selection of the medical industry as a new driving force of the economy. Dongseo New Medicine Hospital has exceeded profit aim initially devised on the 1st of May, 2009, and scraped the awards related to hosting foreign patients given by the minister of health and welfare, and the Korean Tourism Association.
Currently, Dongseo is host to various foreign patients ranging from Russia to Mongol and Egypt. Especially the number of patients from the Russian region are increasing rapidly. This is thought to have happened because they are close geographically, and the buzz that former Russian patients created back at home.
Due to this increase in Russian patients, Dongseo has placed 3 Russian interpreters, and appropriate Russian diet for the patients, Russian newspapers and magazines along with TV channels in russian. Also, Dongseo is servicing the patients with post-treatment tourism aside from its medical services in link with domestic touring companies.
Director in charge Lee Hyungrae of hosting foreign patients commented that "hosting foreign patients in the future will concern establishing a system that will minimize the medical interface between different systems, cultures and languages”. Donseo is increasingly publicizing itself to many different countries, and have established a multi-lingual website consisting of English, Russian, Mongolian and Japanese along with its original Korean to provide optimal service to foreign patients.
