Gyemyung University Dongsan Medical Center(Hosting Foreign Patients-Daegu․Gyungbook) Strengthening‘Foreign Patient Servicing’, up and coming to be an international medical service hospital Gyemyung University Dongsan Hospital started off as the first western medical facility in the Youngnam region, and is a descendent of Jejoongwon, established by an American Medical Missionary, Johnson, in 1899. The historical hospital has currently secured state-of-the-art medical facility and top of the class medical personnel to improve the health of the nation, all of the 1900 staff working together in locations such as the medical school, nursing school and the Kyungjoo Dongsan hospital. Especially, the hospital has specialized their international medical center for the increasing number of foreign patients in this international era, and comprised a team of 9 doctors, nurses and administrative staff along with volunteers to help the treatment of foreign patients. The number of foreign patients that has visited Dongsan hospital has increased from 8282 in 2008 to 9376 in 2009, a leader in the field domestically. Recently, foreign medical tourism has been a boom, and a total of around 300 patients / tourists has visited Dongsan from all over the world. Dongsan hospital has agreed with the US troops currently residing in Korea for medical cooperation in 2000, and with its specialized service in preparing insurance for foreigners, the number of visitors are ever increasing. The Almati Dongsan Hospital under operation since 1996 in Kazakhstan has been selected as a base for intaking patients for medical tourism. In order to strengthen the function, Dongsan has cooperated with Daegu city to establish the 'Daegu City Medical Service Almati Center'. The center has played a crucial role in promoting 'Medicity Daegu' by assisting medical visitors from Central Asia in need.
